Physiotherapy: The best kept secret in healthcare
A recent article in the Associated Press called physiotherapy “the best kept secret in healthcare.” (Associated Press, Dec 28, 2024)
We could not agree more! Our team at Foundation Physiotherapy & Wellness preaches the importance of integrating physiotherapy, chiropractic or massage therapy into your health lifestyle.
Think about the dental model. It’s preventative and it’s maintenance. Physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage therapy (movement health) should be the same!
Similar to our colleagues in the USA, you do not need a physician’s referral to see a physiotherapist. In fact, it’s probably easier to book an appointment with your physiotherapist first!
We are more than rehabilitative or restorative. We can help improve quality of life. Moving better gives you control of your body and helps to reduce the impact of injury or pain. The stronger you are going into an injury, the better the recovery!
Here is a good guideline to follow:
- If you are currently injured or experiencing pain, you should be assessed as soon as possible, and follow your plan of care as prescribed. Following your initial plan of care, the following is recommended:
- If you are not injured, or no longer experiencing any symptoms, seeing a physiotherapist at least 4 times a year is recommended.
- If you are an athlete or weekend warrior, following a major injury or surgery, you should be checking in, at least 6 times/year (every two months)
- If you are experiencing ongoing aches and pains due to conditions such as scar tissue, osteoarthritis, stenosis, tendonosis or wear and tear, you should be checking in, at least once a month.
Monthly visits can address the following:
- Reassess your symptoms, movement and strength
- Assess muscle imbalances and compensatory movement patterns
- Improve muscle length
- Reduce muscle tension
- Reduce joint stiffness
- Improve strength in your tendons, muscles and joints
- Manage regular aches and pains
What are you waiting for???
