Workplace injuries can result in physical, emotional, and financial hardship. This is especially important if you don’t know how long you’ll be out of commission. Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in assisting people recovering from workplace injuries, covered in Ontario by WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board).

It’s important to see a physiotherapist as soon as possible to get started on the best treatment plan for your specific needs.

What is considered a work-related injury?

Work injuries are defined as an accident or injury experienced by an employee while working at his or her place of work. Surprisingly, even office employees can result in work-related accidents because sitting in the same position for long periods of time can be stressful for your body. People who work in offices or warehouses are frequently at risk of repetitive injuries since the nature of their jobs involves constant movement.

If you are injured at work, it is critical you speak with your employer and begin a WSIB claim immediately. Once approved. we recommend that you seek care as quickly as possible.

Common work-related injuries

There are several specific causes and types of work injuries.

Some of the most common include:

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome develops when the median nerve in the wrist becomes compressed, usually as a result of repeated movements.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is commonly caused by typing and assembly line work. According to Harvard Health, it is vital to get treatment for this illness as soon as possible in order to avoid long-term nerve damage.

A physiotherapy program may involve light exercises to strengthen the muscles in your hand and forearm, as well as stretches to enhance flexibility.

Back pain

Back pain is the most commonly reported source of pain, and it can be caused by several types of work-related activities.

For example, long periods of inactivity, such as sitting at a desk all day, can lead to back pain. Putting too much force on your back, such as repeatedly lifting heavy items improperly, can also lead to back pain.

Back injuries are typically caused by rotating or twisting the back incorrectly, especially when lifting.

Sprains and strains

Tendons and ligaments are affected by sprains and strains. This might happen as a result of trauma, such as falling from a ladder, or through repeated motions.

They may also appear as a result of improper equipment use. Physiotherapy at Foundation Physiotherapy may help you reduce or perhaps eliminate the discomfort caused by a torn tendon or ligament.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis is caused by repetitive movements and the overuse of specific body parts.

Tenderness, discomfort, and swelling are common symptoms. Tendonitis, which most frequently affects the knees, elbows, and shoulders, is treatable with physiotherapy.
