Pregnancy comes with its own set of aches and pains but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with them until the baby comes. Despite what you may have been told, there are manual therapy techniques that are safe and effective during pregnancy to help with issues that can come along with a changing body. Chiropractors are trained in these techniques and many chiropractors have further specialized training in what is called the Webster Technique.

WHAT IS THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE?

The Webster Technique is a form of chiropractic care used to analyze and treat the pelvis and its related structures. This specific yet gentle adjustment is used to relieve stress on the joints and ligaments of the spine and pelvis during pregnancy. Because there are ligaments that attach to both the sacrum and the uterus, if there is rotation or malposition of the sacrum this can create tension on the uterus itself. When we optimize the function of the maternal pelvic joints, ligaments and surrounding musculature our bodies are better able to support proper function of the uterus.

DOES THE TECHNIQUE TURN A BREECH BABY?

The Webster Technique is not a breech baby turning technique nor does it attempt to change position of the fetus within the uterus. It does however create an environment that may facilitate the baby’s ability to assume the desired position while in utero, even in the 8th month when a baby’s breech position is unlikely to spontaneously change.

COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED DURING PREGNANCY?
