How can a personalized training program help you?
It is common knowledge that exercise and physical activity is vital to maintain and improve your health and prevent diseases. The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiologists (CSEP) recommends engaging in strength exercises using major muscle groups AT LEAST twice per week, in addition to moderate intensity cardiovascular exercises (running, cycling, walking).
Strengthening exercises are designed to increase the strength and resilience of specific muscles to increase their efficiency. Strength exercises gradually overload the muscle, stimulating the growth of new, stronger muscle fibers.
Many aches and pains occur because the muscles lack adequate strength and endurance for the stresses that we put them through every day. When muscles lack this strength, injuries are more likely to occur. Weakness in specific muscle groups are also likely to create increased joint strain, and lead to compensations and imbalances which can further exacerbate injuries. Strengthening is a vital component to the rehabilitation process.
Along with helping the rehabilitation process, weight training has the following benefits:
- Reduce risk of injury
- Improve pain
- Improve metabolic rate (burn more calories throughout the day)
- Regulate insulin and reduces inflammation
- Improve strength of bones and joints
- Improve your mental health
- Improve your sleep and increases energy levels
- Increase testosterone (needed for men and women)
How can our physiotherapy training program help you?
Strength and flexibility imbalances play an important role in postural issues, tendinopathies, chronic neck and low back pain, repetitive strain injuries, and almost all types of pain. Jared, our senior physiotherapy associate, has over 8 years in training and rehabilitation experience. He will perform a thorough assessment of your strength, flexibility, and movements in order to identify areas of weaknesses and imbalances. Working to address your specific goals or injuries, Jared will prescribe a personalized strength and flexibility program. This program will be completed one-on-one with the physiotherapist in the clinic during weekly or biweekly sessions. As this program is prescribed and led by a physiotherapist, it is covered by most extended health benefits programs!
If you don’t know where to start on your strength journey, or think that you may benefit from a personalized strength and flexibility program (everyone can benefit!) then this program is for you! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at jared@foundationphysio.com. I look forward to seeing you in the clinic!
