Why would I see BOTH a Physiotherapist and Chiropractor?
There are a number of Physiotherapists and Chiropractors who use a similar combination of techniques. So why would you see both? I can think of two situations where seeing a Chiro and a Physio at the same time will provide optimal care and results!
Scenario one: one therapist provides different but collaborative specialties or services that another provider does not offer.
It’s no secret in healthcare- collaborative care and using more than one technique improves patient outcomes. Each provider takes additional training to expand the treatment options they provide. Currently I am the only provider at Foundation Physio trained in Active Release Technique and Graston Technique. Both work great in combination with Physio and Massage therapies. Depending on your physiotherapist’s training and comfort with joint manipulation/mobilization they may also decide to refer you for this type of treatment.
Scenario two: The second reason is when you’ve plateaued during your current treatment plan and would like a second collaborative perspective on your case.
Chiros and Physios do have different training, and we each have our own clinical experiences to draw from, our overall approach, as well as utilization of manual techniques and rehab may differ. Sometimes, a fresh look can be all that is needed to get you from 80 to 100% better. That said, consult with your existing practitioner if you have any concerns, it may simply be a matter of needing more time, or trying a different strategy with them.
Bottom Line:
Foundation Physio believes in a collaborative treatment strategy to get you better faster. We have a number of therapists with different skill sets to meet all of your needs. Discuss with your current therapist if you would benefit by seeing Massage therapy, Physio, or Chrio to facilitate your current plan of care! We work as a team, which works best when there is open communication between everyone involved; starting with you.
