Shockwave therapy with SoftWave Tissue Regeneration Technologies (TRT)TM “uses patented technology to reach an injured area at the cellular level to successfully turn on the body’s natural healing process.”
It is an innovative device used in physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and sports medicine to provide fast pain relief and restore mobility.
Shockwave Therapy is available at our Etobicoke Royal York location.
How does shockwave therapy work?
Shockwave Therapy involves the application of high-frequency, high-energy, acoustic waves to a local area for a short period of time. Shockwaves are applied directly to the site of injury or pain in order to:
- Increase blood flow and new blood vessel formation
- Decrease persistent or chronic inflammation
- Stimulate collagen production
- Decrease calcifications and break down scar tissue
- Decrease pain
- Release muscle trigger points
- Stimulate cellular repair and tissue healing
What Conditions Can Be Treated?
Shockwave Therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, in particular, those involving areas where major connective tissue (ligaments and tendons) attach to bone. Common conditions that can be successfully treated are:
- Jumper’s Knee (patellar tendinopathy)
- Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
- Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
- Plantar Fasciitis / Heel Spurs
- Achilles Tendinopathy
- Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome)
- Gluteal Tendinopathy
- Hamstring Tendinopathy
- Calcific Tendinitis
- Morton’s Neuroma
What can I expect when receiving shockwave therapy treatment?
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment. Your physiotherapist or chiropractor will locate the area to be treated and will let you know whether or not you are a good candidate for shockwave therapy.
Gel (similar to ultrasound gel) will be applied to the area, in order to transfer the acoustic waves efficiently and smoothly. The shockwave applicator will be pressed against the area and turned on. Treatment times can range from 3-15 minutes, depending on the condition/area being treated.
If you continue to experience pain and conservative physiotherapy or chiropractic has not helped, you may be a candidate for shockwave therapy. Schedule an appointment or a discovery call to learn more.
